This isn’t just one of London’s most famous addresses – it’s the very home of Sherlock Holmes, the world’s first consulting detective, who “lived” here from 1881 to 1904 (at least, according to the stories!).
The museum is housed in a charming Georgian townhouse that dates back to 1815. Originally a lodging house, it’s now protected for its architectural and cultural importance. Once inside, we were guided through the house by staff in period costumes, some happier than others. Every room is meticulously recreated with authentic Victorian furniture, artifacts, and even Sherlock’s personal belongings (really what was from the time period of the books). It’s intimate, atmospheric, and absolutely packed with curiosities that made me feel like We were living in Sherlock and Watson’s world.

It’s incredible to stand in the very rooms where Holmes solved his cases, surrounded by the gaslit charm of Victorian London.
